2022 Flat Out Friday
The Flat out Friday event which coincides with the kick off to Mama Tried Show weekend in Milwaukee, Wisconsin combines indoor flat track racing with some serious entertainment for the whole family. The brain child of flat track guru Jeremy Prach, Scott Johnson and Warren Heir Jr. the event takes racing to a whole other level that keeps things easy for anyone to enjoy whether you are a moto enthusiast or not. With races that range all the way from children's bicycles to mini bikes, motocross bikes, vintage bikes, hooligan Harley Davidson's, antique tank shift Harley Davidson's and even raked out choppers, there is a class for just about everyone to get excited about. While there are clear winners to every race the goal at Flat out Friday is good clean fun, great sportsmanship and just having a good time with your friends in a great arena. The majority of classes would mostly be considered amateur with the exception of some seasoned professionals mixed in to keep things interesting.
The racing is done on a Dr Pepper syrup coated concrete track making it an even playing field and challenge for racers of all experience levels. The event always aims to keep things fun with lots of surprises mixed in to give it a vibe that's more entertaining than just your average race. While the event has moved venues to accommodate scheduling and a growing number of patrons this year the Fiserv Forum really made one of the best homes for the event thus far. We are always proud to sponsor this event each year and have the Old Bike Barn crew hit the track early to help get things setup. So when it came time for the action to start we jumped right in and got some great shots to let everyone see the action a little more up close.
The opening ceremonies got everyone really excited and and kicked off a very patriotic vibe to the event as the races dive right into the heats for each class. Its clear right away the racers are definitely giving it they're all this year. The different classes ranging from Mini bike (boonie bike as they refer to it) hooligan harleys, vintage, open women's, motocross bikes, tank shift Harley Davidson's, choppers and the always entertaining goofball class all took the main categories this year. They also made room for several levels of kids racing with 50 CC motorcycles and even a big race with kids of all ages on bicycles. The look of sheer excitement on each of the kids faces definitely ensures that they will be future Flat out Friday racers in the years to come.
Another one of our favorite race classes that returned for 2022 was a group of vintage Honda 350 twins that got to battle it out in years past. Many of the bikes originally being built for a special program intended for youth outreach.
The chopper class also returned for 2022 and had some great vintage Japanese bikes in the lineup putting on quite a good show. Sohc and Dohc Honda 750s and even a vintage inline four Suzuki chopper made for some stiff competition but the raked out choppers couldn't quite compete with the modified stock CB750 swingarm chop that ended up taking the checkered flag.
As always the hooligan bikes brought out some of the most fierce competition and filled the stadium with the most exciting roar of the night. Some of the fastest and most aggressive bikes were definitely seen in this category and always a class that keeps everyone on the edge of their seat.
Rounding out the end of the night was the much anticipated "goofball" class that is always entertaining and this year they had some seriously creative machines on 2 and even 3 wheels. With costumes ranging from Austin Powers movie characters, Greek Mythology, Santa and his reindeer and even a Sasquatch it was hard not to be entertained when seeing the great show these racers put on to battle for the flag.
