Born into a family of motorcycle enthusiasts, Joey Dunlop began tinkering with bikes when most kids were learning to walk and talk. That is perhaps one reason Dunlop became one of motorcycle racing’s greatest, garnering him the well-earned nickname “King of the Road.”

He became a record-maker and a record-breaker, and he is a legend of the sport who will never be forgotten. Passing away at the early age of 46 in 2000, Dunlop held five TT Formula One titles, and 26 Isle of Man TT wins. In addition to well over 150 other major title wins, Dunlop burnt out fast. Still, he will never fade away and will always be a man to inspire others in the motorcycle racing world.

Though the last motorcycle crossed its finish line more than three decades ago, Ascot Park Speedway, located in Gardena, California, continues to live on as one of the most incredible flat track motorcycle racing venues in the sport’s history. To say that the track is merely legendary is akin to saying that Elvis Presley could carry a tune sufficiently enough.

Ascot Park Speedway made many careers. If you won at Ascot Park, you became part of the legend. Others became part of Ascot Park’s story for a more tragic reason, as many careers and lives were ended there, as well.

The Old Bike Barn crossroads bike show at Ama Vintage Motorcycle Days has been bringing the best of the best classic originals, points restorations, and even groundbreaking custom machines for many years now. Our 2022 show set the bar high as usual with some really great entries. The show got off to a rocky start with a little bit of wild July weather but the rains died down to let everyone enjoy the day and bring their best bikes to the crossroads once again.
