AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days Ride In Bike Show

AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days Ride In Bike Show
It was once again a pleasure to team up with the American Motorcyclist Association to bring back the Old Bike Barn crossroads for the 2021 AMA vintage motorcycle days at the famous Mid Ohio sports car course. The crossroads features an assortment of tents and displays showcasing some of the greatest vintage motorcycles the different regions of the world have to offer. Some of our favorite areas like the impressive originals and restorations of the VJMC - vintage Japanese motorcycle club, are always filled with some serious showstoppers from the realm of Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha and Suzuki. They always bring out only the finest and most pristine survivors of the seventies and eighties superbikes. This year the classic British motorcycle club of Cincinnati also showed up in force with a beautiful collection of some of the finest Norton, Triumph, Ariel and BSA motorcycles we have seen to date.

The History of the Yamaha VMAX

The History of the Yamaha VMAX
Sure, you may have heard of the muscle car wars of the 1960s but what about the muscle bike wars of the 1980s?

That’s right! Here in America, the 1980s were significant for many reasons (some that we shouldn’t be so proud of) and the decade of excess and innovation spawned some fascinating creations in both the automotive and the motorcycle world. Chief among these exercises in excess was none other than the subject of this deep dive; the Yamaha VMAX.

2021 Wauseon Vintage Flat Track Races

2021 Wauseon Vintage Flat Track Races
There is nothing quite like the atmosphere of grass roots flat track events like the Wauseon Nationals quarter mile horse track at Ohio's Fulton County fairgrounds. This year's Wauseon Nationals presented by Roeder racing was a bit bitter sweet as the shutdowns of 2020 kept the event from happening a full year and then after much hard work to bring it back for 2021 the day of the event, in which racing was to begin, was unfortunately met with many obstacles surrounding the extremely unpredictable weather. No matter what the circumstances, if the track is just not safe enough or dry enough to race, you simply just can't allow people to put themselves at risk. So George and his team made some tough calls and moved the entire race program to the next day on Saturday. Well the rain kept up strong all Friday night and into the morning hours and the track stayed an ever sketchy and flooded state until the mid afternoon when the sun came out behind the clouds gave us a little drying assistance and the sweet roaring sound of practice laps finally began. A bit burnt out from the weather but yet still unthwarted the racers took the track with a sense of purpose.

The History of the Honda CB350

The History of the Honda CB350
Looking back on the history of American motorcycles, there are few bikes that inspired more dreams of the open road or stole the hearts of motorcycle enthusiasts quite like the Honda CB350. Full of charisma, and charm; the CB350 was perfectly placed at a time things were just a little bit simpler, and having fun on a quality motorcycle didn’t cost a fortune. In fact, what made the CB350 so appealing was the promise of not only motorcycle thrills, but unbeatable, drive it till the chains fall off reliability that was as endearing as it was useful. Sure, it wasn’t the fastest thing on the market at the time, but no one really cared. This is the magic of the CB350.

    2021 Allentown Vintage Drag Races

    2021 Allentown Vintage Drag Races
July 3-4 2021 Allentown, PA Vintage Drags
This is vintage motorcycle drag racing at the Great Allentown Fairgrounds in Allentown, Pennsylvania. And a lot of these motorcycles are bikes that, in the eyes of the uninitiated (or to the stringent collector), might have no place on a race track. Let alone one made of dirt and gravel.

Considering the age and relative scarcity of some of these vintage motorcycles, one might even think they'd be better off getting restored or, at the very least, preserved in their "barn find" conditions for future generations to admire. After all, these are generally not very inexpensive motorcycles. These bikes are expensive. And the replacement parts, should you break something, are also very costly, and only getting harder and harder to find.
