2019 Old Bike Barn Year-In-Review
As 2019 comes to an end, we thought it would be fun to look back at the incredible year we've had embracing vintage motorcycles!
2019 started off with a bang for us, we kicked off the year with two of our favorite shows, Cheap Thrills and Mama Tried. These two do an incredible job at blending modern and vintage motorcycle culture together. You'll see everything from a survivor 70s CB750 chopper, to a pristine race ready RD400.
As Spring came, it was time for us to kick off the riding season and celebrate garage built motorcycles with our event The Greasy Dozen Run! We couldn't have asked for better weather for this years run, mid 70s and sunny! We kicked off the event Friday night with a pre party at Land Grant Brewing. Followed by a 3.5hr ride Saturday on some of Ohio's best roads. The good times we're just getting started once we reached our camp, the group of like minded motorcycle enthusiast sat around the camp fire sharing stories of the road until the sun came up! It was a perfect start to the riding season.
Old Bike Barn brand manager Zane Cook was selected as an invited builder for the Born Free Motorcycle Show in sunny California. His vision being, a slim and minimal Japanese chopper built to ride! We picked up a 1976 Kawasaki KZ400 as his starting platform. Over winter and spring Zane transformed this stock KZ400 into one killer KZ Chopper that turned heads out west.
We made our way back to the midwest for the ultimate vintage motorcycle weekend...thats right. AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days! If you've never been, you are truly missing out on one of the greatest weekends. This event is built to embrace vintage motorcycles of all sorts! Whether you're into vintage motocross, road racing, choppers, stock beauties. You name it, you'll see it there. We love hosting the Old Bike Barn Crossroads and ride in bike show. We couldn't be more happy to be so involved in Vintage Motorcycle days!
After the madness of Vintage Days, Old Bike Barn founder Bear Haughton decided it was time to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the CB750 and go racing; and not just any racing, we're talking land speed racing! Bear took his 1976 CB750 and swapped in a first year 1969 750 engine. The awesome crew up at Lowbrow Customs, were kind enough to haul Bears bike out to the Salt Flats for some good old high speed fun! Bear was out there with a few simple goals, to have fun and see how fast a stock 50yr old CB750 would go. The weather wasn't what everyone expected and delayed the racing quite a bit, but nothing was stopping Bear from getting his rookie run in and putting his trusty 750 to the test. Two days into racing he hit 100.113MPH at 5779 feet of elevation, not bad for a 50yr old motorcycle!

To top off this awesome year, we re-launched the Old Bike Barn Blog! We wanted to create a space to share the stories of YOUR bikes, the fun stuff we get to do and much more. We're excited to see what 2020 has in store for the Old Bike Barn crew. We are looking forward to meeting and chatting vintage motorcycles with you, and continuing to fuel your vintage motorcycle passion!
